The Battle of Trafalgar , October 21st 1805 , HMS Victory breaks the Franco-Spanish lines . Followed by HMS Temeraire and HMS Neptune . This shows Victory running aboard the French 74 frigate Redoutable .She has just given a full broadside , raking the French Bucentaure from stern to stem . In This kind of manoeuvre the death toll would have been enormous . Cannon balls , Splinters large and small , other flying debris shattering . Not to mention the noise and smoke . Old men ageing down to small boys were wounded and killed outright in these battles . Those that never died in battle often died afterward as splinter wounds turned nasty and got infected. The smoke would actually have made visibility zero .

Lord Horatio Nelson was aboard HMS Victory , though he wasn’t the Captain. By being aboard her Victory was the flagship of the Royal Navy . He was Fatally shot by a marksman in the fighting top of the Redoutable . If he was , with all that smoke I doubt very much it was actually an aimed shot . That’s my personal opinion only .The rest as they say is History.. His story

The Battle of Trafalgar research for this took me months alone . Research included Sea conditions , wind direction and strength . I also researched the damage caused to each ship and when , what flags were flying and where . Also for the finer details I researched these types of battles . How the ships boats were towed astern with personal valuables in them . They were never fired upon for that reason apparently , An unwritten rule around the globe. The dead were thrown overboard so the living didn’t suffer mentally , trip over them and carry on slipping in the blood. this was cleaned often using sand .When men fell , slipped or otherwise ended up in the water they were left to fend for themselves as the greater good was winning the battle . They had the boats to get in though. if they were good , quick swimmers anyway . Months of research , so I hope its a good depiction of that moment in time . Anyway its finished so I hope its not too wrong .
