HMS Surprise was the name the Royal Navy gave to the French Navy’s Corvette Unité after Unités capture in 1796. Unité was launched on 16 February 1794. Surprise gained fame in 1799 for the recapture of HMS Hermione. Here she is sailing off the coast of Brazil on her way to the Pacific.

    I purchased this original and it was magnificent — a vivid representation of the ship that features incredible detail. I’ve been aboard the ship that this is modeled on and I’m proud to have this picture hanging in my house.
