HMS Ariel Painting

HMS Ariel Painting. This is HMS Ariel, built in 1806 for the Royal Navy. After just ten years in service, she was sold.

HMS Ariel was a three-masted sloop built for the Royal Navy in 1806. She was one of the Merlin class, 18 gun sloops, and only had a short career of ten years before being sold out of service. During that time HMS Ariel had four captains.

I believe between 1806 and 1809 she spent much of her time around the Baltic. She later went down to serve off the coast of Africa. Not many details exist today that I can find.

HMS Ariel was apparently described, in some quarters, as a miniature frigate in appearance.
