HMS Raisonnable is the main star in this painting, Sunrise Squadron. It depicts the British Mauritius squadron in 1810, as they prepare to leave Simon’s Town in South Africa, bound for the Mauritius islands to fight and ultimately defeat the French during the long campaign. In this painting from the left are HMS Raisonnable, HMS Boadicea, HMS Syrius, and HMS Neriede,( HMS Otter and HMS Staunch are out of shot). I’ve used some artistic license for the background as I’ve never been to Simons Town. I’ve included the famous Martello tower in the center of the background with the navy yard and town, behind the Neriede to the right.
