HMS Sophie Escorting Merchantmen across the Mediterranean Sea in 1802.

HMS Sophie, Escorting Merchantmen across the Mediterranean Sea in 1802.

HMS Sophie is the focus of my inspiration after reading a book. The book was so vivid that this image popped into my head.

The Captain, in his ship, Hms Sophie, a 14 Gun Sloop/Brig, had been ordered to escort several Merchantmen across the Mediterranean Sea. The image I had while reading, is the image I have created. The Ships are from my imagination, entirely derived from the book and how I understood they would look.

I count myself extremely privileged to own the original of this work. The overall look and feel of the painting is breathtaking. Moreover, as an experienced square rigger sailor and long time maritime art enthusiast, I am absolutely delighted with the artist’s command of technical detail – down to the uneven tension expressed on the sails, reflecting wind direction and point of Sophie’s sailing. For such accomplishment, I found the painting very good value indeed – and dealing with Graham an absolute pleasure. I look forward very much to further purchases from this truly gifted artist.
